Newborn Session – Aiden

Williamsburg Newborn Session Heather Hughes Photography

Welcome Baby Aiden

Introducing Baby Aiden! I met mom and dad on their wedding day a few years ago and was beyond honored they asked me to photograph another huge milestone in their lives with a newborn session at their home in Williamsburg, VA.

I love in-home newborn sessions. It makes everything so much easier for new parents. When we do an in-home newborn session as opposed to a studio newborn photography session, parents have everything they could need or want at their fingertips. And when you’re just getting to know a newborn, having everything you need within reach is so important!

I always give parents two options: a session with a backdrop and props, or a more natural session in their home using their existing furniture like a sofa, their bed, or baby’s nursery. For Aiden’s newborn session, we went the backdrop route and it couldn’t have gone better! I got to use my new wraps and favorite basket along with a few of Aiden’s toys as props. For the background, I set up my whitewash brick backdrop and fake wood floor from Denny’s Manufacturing. And in order to get the best light for the session, I squeezed the backdrop in by the kitchen. It’s a good thing I only needed a 6×6 foot space!

Since Baby Aiden was born just before Halloween, we just had to incorporate the cute pumpkin hat that mom found on Etsy! And this little boy was all about cuddles from mom – which is completely normal! With that said, one of the reasons I give over 2 hours for a session is because you just never know how newborns are going to feel on any given day. It took all of that and a little more to get him away from mom long enough for his portrait. But, in the end, the patience was totally worth it. After 2+ hours of cuddles, diaper changes, and feedings, we were able to get great photos – truly some of my favorites. We finished with Aiden in dad’s arm. He was clearly happy there, and he gave us all a little smile as he held onto mom’s finger – the perfect ending.

Lauren and Andy, thank you so much for inviting me into your home and introducing me to Aiden. You’re already doing a wonderful job as parents and it’s so obvious that your family is filled with love. I’m so thankful you chose me to be your newborn photographer!
